Trinamool and BJP candidates file nominations for Rajya Sabha seats in West Bengal

On Tuesday, candidates from both the Trinamool Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) filed their nominations for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections in the Assembly Secretary's chamber. The two rival parties have put forth their candidates for the five Rajya Sabha seats allocated to West Bengal, with three nominations submitted on the first day, and two more scheduled for February 15. Among those who filed their nominations on Tuesday were Sushmita Dev and Nadimul Haq from the Trinamool side, along with BJP's sole candidate Shamik Bhattacharya. Sagarika Ghosh and Mamta Bala Thakur will complete the nominations on February 15 due to pending document collection.

Expressing gratitude towards Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Trinamool National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee, Sushmita Dev pledged to prioritize West Bengal's issues in the Rajya Sabha and work tirelessly for public welfare. Nadimul Haq, a journalist turned politician who is set to enter the Rajya Sabha for the third time, vowed to continue advocating against the Central Government's alleged withholding of state funds. Meanwhile, Shamik Bhattacharya of the BJP celebrated his nomination as a significant achievement, highlighting the party's growing influence in West Bengal's political landscape.
